GM provides a good salary and benefits to both salary and hourly employees. The company is still large enough to be a major producer of vehicles.
The UAW rules that have been established over the years now put the company at a competitive disadvantage. Toyota continues to get better, even though GM has closed the gap in quality. There is still bureaucracy in management and the UAW, which eliminates the possibility to make quick decisions, thus leaving GM behind the competition or being threatened by strikes by the UAW.
There needs to be a flatter management structure and elimination of outdated concessions given to UAW dating back the past 50 years. I believe it will be difficult for GM to make it with the current management; not because they are bad people, but because they cannot see the forest for the trees.
The culture is ingrained with past agreements with the UAW and a theory of entitlement. Unless this is changed quickly, GM will continue to lose market share. Until this is effectively addressed, GM will continue to backslide.
HireVue is the first step. It is a video recording asking you 3-5 questions. Familiarize yourself with the tool and process before starting. Next will be an in-person interview. At least 2 people will meet with you. They're asking for examples of yo
- Virtual/Recorded interview - Was able to re-record responses up to 3 times and review each recording before submitting and moving on to the next question - The questions were all standard, "get to know you" questions (non-technical)
On-campus interview, pretty casual. Only logistic and behavioral questions. Asked me to talk about my experience on my resume. The recruiter was really friendly and showed interest in the research project that I was working on.
