Pros

The pros have grown short in supply as of late. This used to be an amazing company that valued culture and diversity, or counting the beans. Near the beginning of 2024, Mary Barra, the CEO, announced that the cuts made as part of the voluntary separation were enough to ensure that involuntary separation would not be needed. She also reversed the policy on "work appropriately," mandating that appropriately meant in the office 3 days a week.

The only pro at this point is GM announced in an all-hands meeting today that the company is making good profits.

Cons

Disregard for the individual as the emphasis has been shifted to churning out a high volume of code. Code quality is no longer valued; the measure for getting a good review is now getting the correct amount of pull requests a week in.

The bonus was embarrassing last year, as was the salary increase. With a cost of living (COL) that jumped nearly 8% last year, the company handed out 2% raises. This low increase equates to a salary loss for employees of 6%.

Recently, they restructured the mobile organization. They hired outside managers and directors who know next to nothing about vehicles. These managers were hired for their location; most are on the West Coast.
