Pros
  • Decent salary in Detroit area.
  • Really nice people to work with.
  • People are professional and tend to be polite.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion fad is nice.
  • Managers are nice.
Cons
  • Lots of spreadsheets and spreadsheet jockeys.
  • Most communication is via email, with tons of technical documentation and work done via email as well. People generally understand or have a desire to learn the tools that are available to them.
  • Lots of "legacy people," meaning resistance to change and new ways of doing things (not necessarily "old" people, just people who are not tech-savvy).
  • Waay too much process. Everything needs to be approved by several levels of "governance or control boards" with several people on it. But, of course, that may just be the only way to do things in a production environment; I don't know.
  • Too much legacy debt and variation that is a drag on the company.
  • Too much useless training and too many poorly designed, clunky internal systems. Three words: "undifferentiated heavy lifting." Or is that four words?
  • Excellent place to work if you are a super competitive type of person that likes to self-promote and make tons of presentations to management (oh, did I mention the presentations?) and sit in boring meetings all day. I could go on...
Advice to Management

Simplify the vehicle portfolio and leverage software to "manifest" complexity, which is easier to manage and scale.

Perhaps divest from the "production" or "manufacturing" side, or maybe split these into two different organizations.

I don't know, I'm not a C-suite executive, so who cares about what I say?
