Pros

There are still some good opportunities at General Motors if you are involved in battery technology, since GM is playing catch-up on hybrids. Compensation seems to be reasonable, and GM still offers very good benefits.

Cons

Very process-oriented, with a new flavor of the month for ways to improve (but they never eliminate last month's flavor; they just keep adding). Very low morale currently, with more and more job opportunities leaving the United States and moving to lower-cost countries.

The rationale for promotions does not seem to follow any logical sense. There is no consistency in the way people are treated and a lack of communication on what is expected and required.

Advice to Management

Reduce middle management and focus on the core products. Engineer and build great cars and trucks. People who are not directly working on researching, designing, or building cars and trucks need to be reduced. There is too much overhead.
