Everything is really variant from team to team, but the benefits are good, and the culture and devs I have worked with are really friendly. If you are a mid-performer and want a place to work, you could definitely be a GM lifer and be happy.
Not a good place for top performers and talent. There is no upper path for individual contributors. Pay is under market for non-Michigan locations.
It varies team to team, but I've had friends get blocked from transfers because they are the only competent programmer. This happened after being told face-to-face that they would help them move onto another team, and then they were told the only way to leave was to quit.
GM has a lot of data and there are opportunities, but you will likely not be a part of that unless you pay attention to the team you apply for. Even then, they may just put you on another team because they need a resource. This again varies widely team to team.
This job has left me extremely depressed and sucks the passion for programming out of your soul. They know they have problems and they want to change it, but it's not happening anytime soon, if ever.
Learn how to run a project, instead of running politics, and stop thinking of devs as "smurfs".
The interview process was very straightforward. The process consisted of an online HireVue interview/assessment (LC and STAR questions), a phone screening, and a technical round (around two hours). The entire process from application to offer took ar
STAR-based questions are the typical format of the interview. Depending on the job title, there might be a coding challenge followed by a STAR-based round. A panel of interviewers will conduct the interview, which will last between 30-45 minutes.
The interview process was very thorough. Two tech interviews and one HR. I got a home assignment. Swift process. Very educated interviewers. I enjoyed the interview process, which was challenging but fair.
