I applied online for the role of DevOps Engineer and received an email to schedule an initial phone screen with the recruiter. After the phone call, I was given a take-home coding test via email with a deadline of a few hours. The coding challenge was simple; it required parsing a log file and printing relevant information. Within minutes of submitting the code, I received a standard rejection letter. Upon follow-up, I was told to go back and read the instructions. The code worked fine, printing all the information requested in the instructions, but I believe I missed one instruction that was not very clear.
I considered following up again, but given how rude the initial email was, I decided against it. I felt like I had wasted my time working on the problem.
This is not my first negative experience with the company. Previously, I applied for the position of Site Reliability Engineer. I had two rounds of interviews: the first with the recruiter and the second with the hiring manager. The hiring manager round mostly consisted of 'yes/no' questions and queries like 'rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 in various tools and technologies.' It concluded with the question, 'What is the internet?' I never heard back.
Quite sad and disappointing.
What is the Internet?
