Process

The interview process was fairly straightforward. I applied as an internal referral and heard back quickly to take the Hackerrank assessment test. This involved two problems, and I was given 1.5 to 2 hours to complete (I don't recall the exact time limit). After completing it, I experienced some technical issues and reached out to the recruiter. She sent my concerns and notes to the hiring manager, and then I scheduled a technical screen with the hiring manager. This was done via the Hackerrank platform with a shared code screen. This is where things got fun.

  1. They took the call in the middle of the office with an open mic, so I could hear every single conversation in the background.
  2. After asking me the technical question, he continued with whatever he was doing before our interview, typing away and not at all present. I know this because...
  3. I asked a couple of clarifying questions as well as some questions for guidance, and he sort of just didn't respond.
  4. Mind you, it was an easy question, and I knew how to solve it, but my social anxiety kicked in. Since there was so much going on in the background, I couldn't concentrate and was discouraged because I felt I was being ignored.

I understand that not everyone knows how to interview, but this is why third-party services exist to take care of that for you. If I take time out of my day and give you my full attention, I expect the same. Otherwise, don't even bother penciling me in, as it is rude and inconsiderate. Also, how hard is it to book a conference room to conduct an interview or mute your mic so I don't hear five different ringtones and people talking?

I didn't want to listen to the Glassdoor reviews, as I know everyone has a unique experience, but I really wish I hadn't wasted my time.
