I was contacted by a recruiter to interview for a DevOps role in Singapore for the Marquee team. I was provided no context about the interview stages before the first interview.
There are eight rounds in total for a DevOps role at Goldman Sachs, which is a lot. They justify it by saying, "you'd be lucky to work here," which was already a red flag.
I had my first interview, which included some Algo and DS questions that were fine. However, the interviewer then began asking me about specifics in C#, a language I do not know, do not have on my CV, and was not mentioned in the job specification. I had told her at the start of the interview that I didn't know C#, and she proceeded to ask me only C# questions.
As I tried to answer questions, she'd look off into the distance, talk to others in the background, and at one stage even stood up and waved to someone else off-screen. It was very disrespectful of my time. If she was too busy to conduct the interview, she should have asked someone else to do it.
They scheduled me for multiple rounds in one go. After that interview, I had another round with different interviewers in a different GS office. That interview seemed to be better, but then when the second interviewer began to ask questions, it started going downhill.
I was less than five words into my first answer to his question when he interrupted me and said, "I don't care, just give me three bullet points." This continued for the rest of the interview. I'd be explaining my answer, even in the bullet point format he'd requested, and I'd be interrupted before finishing my answer or even getting halfway through, and told, "Okay, next question."
This was followed by a question about my experience on Production systems, where he started the question by saying, "not too many women work on production systems, but you claim to have." At this point, I decided to end the interview, as it was very disrespectful throughout and clearly a waste of three hours of my life.
I then told the recruiter that I do not wish to continue interviewing for the position and explained why. She responded by saying, "Well, you didn't interview with people you'd be working with; they're very nice," and "We don't tolerate sexism in Goldman Sachs; you must have misheard."
Not a company I'd ever consider interviewing for again.
