Senior Software Developer Interview Experience

Process

The process started with a call from HR, who asked basic questions about salary and my reasons for seeking new employment. They then scheduled a second phone interview with a member of the hiring team.

This second call went well. They asked general Java questions about APIs and testing frameworks, and also quizzed me on general database knowledge, such as how to address a slow query.

Following the phone interviews, I went to the office for a 2- to 3-hour interview. It began with a 1-hour written exam covering basic web app development, SQL queries, Java, and object-oriented design.

After the exam, I met with four different team members for approximately 30 minutes each. Their questions ranged from basic finance topics to advanced Java and database concepts.

For Java questions, be prepared to discuss HashMaps and multithreading. For database questions, understand how to handle slow queries, different types of indexes and their functions, and various joins and WHERE clauses.

Overall, I performed adequately during the interview. However, the more time I spent there, the more I realized it wasn't a place I would want to work. If you are passionate about finance and aim to earn well while working in a standard office environment, this could be a good fit for you. If you have little interest in finance and prefer to develop using the newest, most engaging technologies in a dynamic atmosphere, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
