Process

Overall, I had a great interview experience, though it took much longer than expected.

My process began with a call from a sourcer, followed by a screening round and an online interview.

Next, the recruiter contacted me for a phone behavioral interview. The recruiter followed up a week later with an invitation for an on-site interview, which I scheduled for early June.

Unfortunately, one of the interviewers was absent, requiring me to wait another week to complete all rounds.

I received positive results in mid-June and was then placed in team matching.

Within the same week, Google underwent a restructuring and froze the team matching stage to reassess headcount. This pause lasted 3-4 weeks. I accepted another offer as a backup during this time.

I completed one round of team matches in July, had a positive discussion with the hiring manager, and received verbal offers from multiple sources.

Discussions regarding next steps and negotiations began before the official offer letter was extended. My recruiter went on a team off-site for a week, and we resumed negotiations the following week, in late July.

I had burned a bridge with another company, as Google had always been my dream company.

Google then implemented a hiring freeze, and my offer letter was put on hold (late July/early August). It was initially announced as a 2-week freeze.

During this period, my recruiter did not mention any rescinded offers, and I maintained weekly contact with them.

The freeze extended beyond two weeks. In early September, I was notified that my offer was rescinded because the team lost headcount for the position. My recruiter had to close my application, as L3 SWEs (Early Career) were deprioritized for the remainder of 2022.

TLDR: Generally, it was a good interview experience, aside from all the waiting. The offer rescission was due to bad timing.

Questions

The interview consisted of 3 technical rounds and 1 behavioral round. I signed an NDA. The technical rounds typically involved:

  • Two LeetCode medium problems to start, followed by harder variations.
  • One LeetCode hard problem upfront.

I had a great time during the interview process. However, I felt I could have performed better in my last round.
