A recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn.
We discussed the interview process, and they scheduled the first three discussions consecutively.
I sent multiple follow-up emails and calls for feedback but didn't receive any update from the recruiter.
Questions
Round - 1
Problem Statement: Design a system to view the latest stock prices from stock markets around the world.
Round - 2
Problem Statement: Design a photo-sharing or photo-publishing website, similar to Flickr or Google Photos. Users can upload photos, download full-size photos, and browse a web page or mobile UI with thumbnails of photos in a particular photo album. Design the software system that stores and retrieves the photos and thumbnails.
Round - 3
Questions:
- What is your team size? Do you have any managers reporting to you?
- How do you motivate your team (low performers and high performers)?
- You are working on a worst/stable project with no scope for improvement, but you have to support it. How do you motivate your team to work for that project/product?
- How do you set a vision for your team?
- How do you resolve unhealthy competition in your team?
- Have you been involved in a project that had multiple solutions? How did you decide and arrive at the most optimal solution?
- You have a new project and need to assign some of your team members to it. How do you assign them? How do you maintain transparency and accountability in this process?

Great place to start a career

Pros: When I was at Google, the company was growing rapidly, and I was able to grow with the company. I was quickly promoted and benefitted from having a lot of senior, experienced people to learn from. I got to work on products used by billions of people, which is an impact that few other places can match.
Cons: Google has a lot of bad managers. They spend a ton of money trying to figure out how to make it better, but the tl;dr is that at the senior levels, a lot of the promotion committees (it's an anonymous committee, not your manager, who decides) look favorably on managing people. Especially on the manager track, the size of the organization you manage seemed to matter more than how good of a manager you were.
In many parts of the org, it became impossible to get the promotion to the next level unless you had a manager who was really good about helping you carve out space to manage a large organization within their org.
Career development is mostly an exercise for the reader. There are lots of opportunities available, but you have to go out and find them and push. Don't expect someone to guide you along career development.
At the senior levels, you're at a huge disadvantage outside of Mountain View. And if you're in MTV, you're either suffering a huge commute from SF, or living in an extremely overpriced, boring suburb.

Pros: Everyone I worked with has been really smart and easy to work with.
Lots of opportunities to show yourself and present your ideas to leads.
Highly innovative products are being developed routinely.
Really easy to switch between teams and locations.
One of the top benefits packages.
Cons: - Really hard to find a job that's better than what you have.
- Career progression can be slow.
- Business priorities tend to swing quite a bit, and that process is never smooth.
