Frontend Engineer Interview Experience - São Paulo, São Paulo

Process

I was approached by a recruiter on LinkedIn, who gave me dates to schedule the interview. The options were for at least two weeks after receiving the email.

I scheduled it for four weeks later. This time is necessary for preparation in algorithm solutions and academic concepts that are not part of the daily routine of most programmers.

They send an email with several references on what to study.

I only did the "phone interview", which is an introductory interview with a simple programming problem.

The code is written on a specific platform for this, with syntax highlighting and indentation. The interviewer can see and type as well.

It's like Google Docs with programming features for the chosen language; you just can't execute the code.

There were 45 minutes to solve the problem, and then free time for questions about Google.

The interview was in English. During the conversation, the interviewer said that my code was intelligent and concise for solving the problem.

Later, when I asked my questions about how the work at Google functioned, he said they were great questions too.

However, I did not pass. When I asked the reason, they told me that their policy is not to explain.

The reason I consider the experience negative is solely this.

There is no way to know what I should have done differently to consider applying again.

Questions

It's a very simple algorithm, nothing involving academic concepts like binary trees and graphs.

I cannot go into detail due to a confidentiality agreement that does not allow me to share the questions, but it's something a junior programmer would be able to solve.

Anyone with reasonable Javascript experience would be able to solve it, even without having gone to college.
