Pros: The atmosphere here is great. The pay is great. It's not too stressful, as some might think.

Cons: It is really hard to get into this position.

Pros: Very democratic. Truly wants to change the world for good. Surrounded by people like myself.

Cons: Product failure rate is high, with perpetual migration to do. Low performers are tolerated because managers are busy managing yet another reorganization.

Pros: Good pay. The Roth IRA backdoor is nice if you've got the extra money to save. Looks great on a resume afterwards! Work/life balance is good. Only out-of-hours work if you are on-call or need to have a meeting with someone on another continent.

Cons: Projects were all simple. I never felt challenged during my entire time there. My org's management was absurd. They tried to grow our team by 10x in two years and got the integration problems you'd expect. They kept trying to add more senior engineers, even when they didn't have enough work for the ones they had. Engineers would fight to steal projects from each other. Internal reviews all say to avoid working in Google Cloud, though; it's not as friendly as the rest of Google. Layoffs are a sign the company is in bad hands. They're saying they don't expect to need 12,000 people for at least 2 years. (6 months severance + 1 year to onboard a new employee + the cost of interviewing the new employee) D&I always felt like a fig leaf. Lots of thoughts and prayers for people to include each other, but no willingness to take actions that would actually promote inclusion.
