A Google recruiter from Mountain View reached out to me with an initial offer to interview there. I firmly declined, as I do not intend to move. I was then passed on to an LA-based recruiter. After reviewing my CV, they informed me that they had openings locally that would fit my background.
I must say that, compared to my previous Google interview experience, communication with HR was severely lacking. HR was constantly late to calls or did not call at all.
Since I had interviewed with Google in the past, we bypassed the phone screen and went straight for an on-site round of five interviews, including lunch and a facilities tour. I assume it went fairly well, as a week later I was told my application would go forth to the hiring committee.
Yet another week passed, and I was informed that there was really no good opening for me in Venice and asked if I would consider applying at Mountain View, which I again declined.
After one more week of no news, I was informed that my application was dropped due to a lack of proper fit for my background in my geographical location.
It would have saved everyone involved quite a bit of time if my request for a specific geographical location had been treated seriously from the get-go. Spending six hours of engineering force time just to interview someone you have no intention of hiring is probably not the most efficient use of resources.
NDA prevents me from disclosing those.
