I received an email from a Google recruiter and spoke with him on the phone for 10-15 minutes. He had found me via LinkedIn and was looking for a developer. However, I informed him that I am interested in pursuing a PhD program and asked if Google offers such opportunities. He stated that they do not offer full PhD programs but do have PhD internship programs, among other things.
