Software Engineer Interview Experience - Durham, North Carolina

Process

I had a virtual onsite interview for L4. One week after the interview, I was told that I had been approved for L3.

A few days later, I was informed that the decision had changed and my status was HOLD, with extra interviews scheduled.

These extra interviews did not go well, and I ultimately received a rejection.

My issue is not the necessity of extra interviews after being put on hold. My concern is that the decision was reversed after an initial one had already been communicated. For three to four days, I believed I had an offer and shared this news with my family. The reversal felt terrible.

Sometimes, it's not just ability but also mental health that affects interview performance. This reversal significantly impacted me. The Hiring Committee could have taken a few more days to reach a firm decision, even if it was a hold or reject, but this approach felt unprofessional.

A candidate is expected to demonstrate qualities like firm decision-making and effective communication during behavioral rounds. Therefore, the least expectation is that the company practices the same.

I hope this feedback will be helpful and prevent similar experiences for other candidates.
