Software Engineer Interview Experience - Sunnyvale, California

Process

I applied online and received an email less than a week later inviting me to talk with one of Google's in-house recruiters. This initial phone call is mainly for the recruiter to get to know you a little better and to schedule the technical phone screen, which we did for the following week.

The phone screen was basically a 45-minute-long phone call where a Google engineer called and asked a question that you answer by coding on a Google Doc. Without going into details, I would say the questions they asked were pretty basic: think harder than HackerRank easy, but easier than HackerRank average algorithm questions.

Following the phone screen, my recruiter called me back within two days to inform me that they were not going to move forward. However, they couldn't tell me why due to confidentiality agreements. Overall, I enjoyed the recruitment process, but the fact that they couldn't give me any specific feedback left me with a bad taste in my mouth (wondering if I failed the phone screen, if they went with another candidate, if something internal happened, or if the questions were just maddening).

Questions

Due to confidentiality agreements, I can't go into specifics, but it was a pretty basic problem. If you can do most Hacker Rank average difficulty problems, this will be a breeze for you.
