Software Engineer Interview Experience - Sunnyvale, California

March 1, 2016
Positive ExperienceNo Offer

Process

First, a recruiter contacted me. Then, one round of phone interview was arranged. After passing the phone interview, there were five 1:1 onsite interviews. The feedbacks will be sent to the hiring committee, and the decision could be pass, reject, or borderline. For candidates on borderline, there might be other chances, for example:

  • Talking to team managers to see if there is any match
  • Considering other positions

Questions

We talked about my resume for a while, mostly coding and algorithm questions. To tackle a problem, no matter if you've met similar ones before or not, clarify the question first, make some examples, then elaborate your thoughts quickly (you can write a few pseudocodes to help understanding), and start to code on the whiteboard. Focus on the structure while being careful not to make bugs. The key points are analytical skills and responding speed, but coding skills are also very important.
