I got an email from a recruiter my senior year in college. My background wasn't really computer science (stats), and I asked if there were statistics jobs available. They said they were just interested in software engineering roles.
I had a mock interview with an employee who happened to be at my school, then a call with the recruiter, then a phone technical interview.
