Process

Initial call with the recruiter, including basic technical questions from the Unix area.

After that, 2 phone interviews covering technology and management. The interviewers were very friendly and the questions were appropriate.

  • Technology: Questions about Unix
  • Coding problem in Google Docs: Sorting out overlapping intervals from a list.

After that, an invitation to Dublin with 5 interviews back-to-back, interrupted by a lunch break in the canteen. Here I had the opportunity to talk to the SRE Site Manager.

Two weeks later, I received notification that the result was insufficient. There was no detailed feedback, just information on which interviews were good from Google's perspective and which were not.

Throughout the entire process, I realized that a lot of it is down to luck and also depends on which interviewers you get and what mood they are in that day. Furthermore, they seemed less interested in me as a person; the interviews reminded me more of oral exams at university.

I'm not sure if I'll try again with this company later on.
