Google is incapable of innovation anymore. Any attempts to do something novel are frowned upon. All the effort is concentrated on maintaining what's done, and not on doing anything new. Losing competition in AI to Facebook (PyTorch) and OpenAI (ChatGPT) is a perfect example of this.
Defunct low-level management. I mean, they literally don't do anything. You could remove all the low-level managers, and nothing would change.
Sometimes, a very toxic culture. I've been in the workforce for 20+ years. Google was the only company where I felt outright abused and humiliated. It definitely doesn't apply to all of Google; I had an excellent experience in one org and a horrible one in another.
