Met with the hiring manager. Confirmed I was a backend engineer with no recent full-stack or cloud experience.
Talked about my last 7 years of experience at two top-tier employers.
Started the coding challenge. I was given a generic platform set up for Java. I was asked a design question about the design of a full-stack application on the cloud.
After several minutes of describing REST interfaces and distributed databases in multiple regions, I was told that I was not giving the data layer design that was wanted, and the interview abruptly ended.
The whole interview was unprofessional and discouraging. Neither my resume, the conversation with the recruiter, nor the interview had me claim frontend web server experience in the cloud, and yet the entire technical portion was focused on this.
