Software Engineer, Entry Level Interview Experience - Chicago, Illinois

Process

I had phone screens with people from HR and Engineering.

The HR representative misplaced my email, and I had to follow up with her. When we did eventually talk, she seemed genuinely nice and knowledgeable about the technical aspects.

My phone interview with Engineering was with someone even younger than me (and I am 25). He asked questions about experience, but seemed very busy and focused on "checking things off." I tried looking at his blog and online profile to establish a connection, but he didn't seem as open to it as the HR representative did. He had to leave for a meeting and cut our interview short.

Overall, it seems that even though Groupon is large and growing, they are more interested in throughput than in getting to know candidates. It also appears they are not willing to invest in employees, which I would expect for an entry-level college graduate position.
