An internal GrubHub recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. During the intro call, we discussed why I did not work in 2018 (I traveled for a year). The recruiter then asked which version of Java I had used. I stated Java 6 as a developer and Java 8 as an engineering manager. The recruiter then expressed concern about how up-to-date I am with modern technologies, as GrubHub uses Java 9 (I wondered why not 10?). He mentioned that the only reason he reached out was due to my seven years of experience at Amazon (both as an SDE and SDM). This was amusing because I hadn't mentioned my Amazon experience during the call. Instead, I elaborated on a few cool projects I led and the two engineering teams I built at a startup after my time at Amazon. At the end, he said he would forward my resume to a colleague who specializes in that area (which area, I wondered) and would get back to me later.
This recruiter was clueless and ineffective.
