I applied for the position online and received a response from the Guidewire recruiter quickly, within 3 days. There was a brief phone interview with the HR recruiter. She asked general technical questions to ensure my skill set matched the requirements in the job description. Then, she requested that I complete a 90-minute technical test.

After the test, I thought I had performed well. At least, I was confident that I had provided correct answers for 80% of the questions.

Three days after the test, I received a phone call from another HR person at Guidewire, who informed me that they would not be pursuing my application further. I asked how I had performed on the test. She did not answer my question directly but instead asked me how difficult I found the test.

1. What are some of the flow control mechanisms you would expect to find in a modern programming language? Compare and contrast three of these mechanisms.

2. List the main concepts of object-oriented development. Describe at least one in detail.

3. Given an array of type Contact with the property Phone, write a Java method that determines whether any pair of contacts in the array has the same phone number. Be sure to return a boolean value of true if a match is found. Note that there are several potential solutions to this problem. Please try to provide the most efficient solution possible, assuming a very large number of contacts.

4. List the test method names that you would want to implement for the above code. Provide the implementation for at least one of these.
