Process

A recruiter initially reached out to me. Following that, I completed a Codility test, which lasted 90 minutes and featured two problems. While not difficult, the problems were lengthy. I was able to solve them in 75 minutes.

After the test, a 75-minute first-round interview was scheduled. The panel consisted of a senior engineer and a new college graduate. The senior engineer mentioned that the graduate was shadowing. Although they were on Zoom, they did not enable their video.

During the interview, the senior engineer asked me to introduce myself. She appeared restless while I spoke, as if my time was being wasted. She then instantly shared a Codility link and asked me to solve a problem. Despite my attempt to explain my approach first, I was immediately instructed to code. I was permitted to code in an IDE. Once my solution worked, she presented me with a second problem. This one was more difficult and lengthier than the first. I was able to code a solution, but I did not have sufficient time to run it.

While I was coding, the new graduate was typing constantly, which was very annoying. I speculated that he might have been solving the problem concurrently.

The experience felt humiliating. These two problems were similar to take-home assignments, and I did not understand their purpose. It felt akin to two people watching you take an exam. One YouTube video I saw mentioned that companies look for culture fit, but nothing of that nature occurred during this interview. Furthermore, they did not inform me beforehand that I would need to solve two problems.

Overall, it was a negative experience, the worst interview I have attended in recent years.
