This December, I'll have been at Guidewire for ten years. The commute from Castro Valley gets old, but I'll live with that. I love and respect the people I work with, and that's the bottom line. I constantly do creative and challenging work. I couldn't ask for anything more.
The new management is trying hard to put in strategy and planning procedures designed to keep up to date technically and adjust to "Software as a Service." Necessary, but sometimes painful. Me, I just want to keep my head down and code! That is what they let me do, and so I'm still here.
Don't get too hung up on one particular planning methodology. Hearing people argue the finer points of Agile is a waste of time.
I was recently referred to Guidewire Software and asked to come to their office for an interview. I was told the entire process would take 2-3 hours the same day. However, the reality was far from this. The process dragged on for the entire day, and
1st round: Codelity challenge (90 minutes). 2nd round: Behavior round with pair programming. The hiring manager was very rude. There was no time to answer any questions. The one-hour interview was cut short to 40 minutes. The manager took 15 minutes
First round with director: describe experience and a basic coding question in Java. Second round with an Indian developer: two coding questions. I wrote a solution for the second coding question, but it didn't pass all tests due to time. Third roun
