Process

I applied online via Gusto's website. The process included a recruiter screen, a take-home exercise, and five onsite interviews.

Take-Home Exercise: I was tasked with building an Android app that displayed a rotating lunch menu from a list of strings. I was given 3-5 business days to complete this.

It took about one month to hear back from the recruiter after submitting the exercise. I then proceeded with five virtual onsite interviews:

  1. Take-Home Exercise Review and Extension: I was asked to modify the app to create an infinitely scrolling menu, allowing scrolling both up and down.
  2. System Design: I had to design a messaging app, similar to WhatsApp or the Messages app.
  3. Hiring Manager Interview.
  4. Values and Motivations Interview.
  5. Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) Interview: This involved a time-based key-value store problem on LeetCode.

I received an unusual email from the recruiter the Monday after my interviews, inquiring about other companies I was interviewing with. He mentioned receiving positive feedback from my interviews and stated he wanted the best for me (which was unclear). A week later, I received a generic rejection email.
