Staff Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

A recruiter reached out to me, and we scheduled a call to learn about the team, openings, and interview loop.

Then, there was a technical screening interview where I solved a LeetCode-style medium-level problem.

If you pass this, you advance to the Onsite. The Onsite consisted of three more technical interviews:

  • Two coding interviews
  • One system design interview

And two behavioral interviews (hiring manager and values).

The problems were challenging, but every single interviewer I worked with was kind, fun to work with, and genuinely supportive as I worked through each topic. In fact, the kindness was so striking—from all the interviewers and recruiting staff—that when the opportunity came to consider an offer, I already knew the answer would be yes. It was easily one of the best (albeit challenging) interview experiences I've ever had.

Questions

Everything you need to review has already been discussed in Glassdoor and Leetcode forums at length.

The nice thing about the problems is they are all relevant to the problem space that Gusto sits in, so it isn't just whiteboarding for whiteboarding's sake.
