Cons: Nothing new to learn, since banks stick to older technology. No job security, since there have been lots of layoffs since last year.

Pros: Work-life balance. Supportive peers. People are supportive when taking leaves. Good leave plan. Good for mid-level management. Good if you start with a good salary, as there is not much growth.

Cons: Really redundant technology. If you think that the tech you are working on is going to be obsolete, at HSBC it is new technology. You can get teams like Mainframe or Service Ticket Resolution which are dead ends for your career. A lot of teams have budget issues, especially during the appraisal cycle. * 0 HR involvement * Manager dependent appraisal and not work dependent * Not a lot of development projects, mostly support projects. Really slow career growth. Great mismatch between the quality of work done by the HTI team and the offshore teams in the UK and US. Managers living in denial and failing to notice issues.
