The company implemented an environment similar to Google's. "Decompression" rooms with cable TV, coffee machines, soft drinks, and snacks, a well-equipped pantry/kitchen. Access to various other facilities for leisure and sports practices in HSBC group spaces, at no cost to the employee. Many parties, events, and recognitions (including formal ones) encouraged and supported by the company's management. In short, it was one of the best companies I've worked for in my professional career.
The salaries at that time were below market. When strikes occurred promoted by the banking sector, GLT, which was to be the group's technological arm, was forced to give up its space to bank employees. This caused some discomfort. I don't remember any other negative points. Scopus (which absorbed GLT after acquisition by Bradesco) does not follow the same principles.
A quite rigorous selection process with several phases. Participation of several technical leaders, comprising interviews and practical tests.
Simple interviews with basic to advanced Java concepts, including Spring Boot and backend development. Topics covered: hashing, component scan, repository, and more about backend development with respect to Java 8, entities, and objects/annotations.
The final-stage assessment consisted of two 40-minute interviews with assessors. The interviewers were engaging and did not expect technical knowledge. I was able to have some great conversations about the role and culture.
