HSBC has locations throughout the North East, Chicago, and Vancouver. These are actually decent places to work and live.
In the North East, New York is better than Jersey City.
Very command and control oriented. They are trying to change things now, but overall, it is a very bureaucratic place to work. Very Matrix oriented.
Management needs to delegate more.
Give more control and responsibility to the employees.
Invest more in teams and be forgiving of mistakes.
I had a quick phone interview with HR. A short, 30-minute interview with the hiring manager. And I came in for a 1:1 interview with the hiring manager.
Simple interviews with basic to advanced Java concepts, including Spring Boot and backend development. Topics covered: hashing, component scan, repository, and more about backend development with respect to Java 8, entities, and objects/annotations.
The final-stage assessment consisted of two 40-minute interviews with assessors. The interviewers were engaging and did not expect technical knowledge. I was able to have some great conversations about the role and culture.
