Pros
  1. You will have access to a learning resource that keeps yourself updated with new technologies and good case practices.
  2. You will learn to thrive under constant pressure in project delivery and budget constraints.
  3. You will learn to embrace constant movement to new projects based on available budgets allocated for different initiatives.
Cons
  1. No job stability, expected for a contractor, though I still expect to have at least a month or two of visibility.

  2. As a large global organization, you don't have much say on the company's practices, which is important for senior employees to master the skills of implementing a transformation plan on their functional expertise.

  3. Most of your technology colleagues are not very interested in the core technology, as most of the work is done by vendors and offshore IT teams. Everyone is sort of managing something, though they really do not have a fixed functional team to manage.

Advice to Management

Actively promoting high-performing contractors to permanent positions before they get their hands on something else.
