The interview process consisted of:

• A 45-minute casual chat with the internal recruiter.
• A HubSpot coding challenge.
• A 3.5-hour interview with four interviewers.

The coding challenge was completely reasonable and should be easy for someone who builds web apps all the time. It took me 1.5 hours.

The problem was the 3.5-hour interview. The role was for a ReactJS job. I rarely, if ever, use VanillaJS. No one in their right mind would build an app with plain vanilla JS.

The entire interview focused on vanilla JS, and I was rejected because I wasn't an expert at vanilla JS. I don't use it! There was no mention of vanilla JS in the job description.

This was a huge waste of my time. If they didn't think I was doing well in the first hour, they should have just ended the interview.

I had to spend so much time and energy on these people. I already have a job and don't need this one.

Who do they think they are, asking people to spend 3.5 hours? I will never apply to this company again. I could have spent that time on better job prospects or, wait, maybe on the job that is actually paying me.
