My first contact was with an internal recruiter. We had a 15-minute conversation where they asked about my background, projects, and current role – basic first phone call topics. The second round was a timed coding exercise, though not live or on video. You were asked to hit an API endpoint, transform some data, and send it to another endpoint. This was a timed exercise. Upon successful submission, I received an email congratulating me on completing the task and stating they would be in contact about next steps.
Unfortunately, that was the end of the road. I was officially ghosted. I followed up the next day, asking about the typical timeline and when I could expect to hear back. By the end of the day, I received no response. Days later, nothing. Weeks later, still nothing. There was no form letter indicating I didn't make it, nor an automated message confirming the process was over and thanking me for applying.
If this message reaches HR: You need to understand that you are literally harming people by not responding to them. Every instance of this chips away at them a little bit. Every time a recruiter ignores someone seeking a job, it hardens them as well. We are all human beings. It's time you recognized it.
Get data from an API, then post it back.
