Pros: The culture. I fully admit to drinking the Kool-Aid, but darn, it's tasty and refreshing. "Use good judgment" really does cover most of our policies here. It's empowering and simultaneously encourages employees to really think about their actions. The people. They're smart, motivated, humble, and overall a great group. I joined HubSpot over two years ago with the promise of learning more than I had at any previous job, and I am still learning a ton. The perks. They keep getting better and better.

Cons: I feel disconnected from the non-engineering parts of the company. Within engineering, things can be quirky/dysfunctional. If you can't adapt to the kind of weird ways we work (or have the moxie to effect the change you want to see), then you will not last long.

Pros: Unlike a lot of other bigger companies, HubSpot has a product & engineering team in Dublin that does real work. Core components of their business are developed here; it's not just some satellite office that does reliability. They have very good pay, good benefits, a very nice office, and just an all-round great team here.

Cons: Ever since it's gone public and as the company has grown, a little bit of corporate-ness has been creeping in. The "startup" feeling is slowly leaving the company. People are in place to try to combat that, but there's a limit to how much they can really do.

Pros: As an individual contributor, you really have a lot of autonomy in the work you do and can make big plays with your team. Orders don't come down from executives; the teams decide what they want to do and how to do it, start to finish, on their own terms. You of course get direction and insight from people higher up, but engineers, product managers, designers, and business stakeholders all work together in autonomous teams to make things happen. As a software engineer, your work is always high impact, and you get to shape how your team operates.

Cons: Especially now, certain parts of the org are feeling some growing pains that come from scaling up. In the long term, that's a good thing, but sometimes it can cause some logistical issues in the short term.
