Process
HubSpot has always been one of my dream companies to work for. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. I spoke with an HR person and completed a coding challenge within 2 hours (given a maximum time limit of 3 hours). After that, I had a video call with the Tech Lead, which also went well.
Here comes the issue: as I am currently working full-time for my old company, we are having a hectic month. In my current situation, I cannot take a whole day off to fly to MA to attend an in-person interview. I requested if they could conduct the other rounds via video call. Apparently, they cannot do it. I am sad; I have lost this great opportunity. However, the entire interview process so far has been a great experience.

Pros: Hands down the most transparent company I've heard of. Board decks, financials, the role of gender in the company. All of it is on the very active and thoughtful wiki.
Wears its culture on its sleeve. If you read these reviews and think "yeah, I'm up for the challenge" then it's great.
Centralized authority and trust. Management is careful to not be top down. Exciting, if sometimes disorganized. Feels like a 40-person company.
Pre-IPO run-up is exhilarating.
Cons: You break it, you buy it. Authority to do your own thing means you own success and failure.
Culture can be a bit fratty.
Reliance on some superstars can feel like favoritism.

Pros: The culture. I fully admit to drinking the Kool-Aid, but darn, it's tasty and refreshing. "Use good judgment" really does cover most of our policies here. It's empowering and simultaneously encourages employees to really think about their actions.
The people. They're smart, motivated, humble, and overall a great group. I joined HubSpot over two years ago with the promise of learning more than I had at any previous job, and I am still learning a ton.
The perks. They keep getting better and better.
Cons: I feel disconnected from the non-engineering parts of the company. Within engineering, things can be quirky/dysfunctional. If you can't adapt to the kind of weird ways we work (or have the moxie to effect the change you want to see), then you will not last long.

Pros: There are a lot of modern technologies being used here, and lots of people that are very knowledgeable to learn from. There's minimal overhead in the develop-test-release cycle.
Career growth is something that's actively discussed between managers and team members.
Company culture is something that's at the forefront of people's minds; people want to make this a great place to work.
Cons: Due to the autonomy given to teams, things can sometimes seem disorganized, or the same problem may be solved in two different ways by two different teams.
