Process

I was contacted by a recruiter who wouldn't reveal the company's name until he knew I was interested in the job. After reviewing and approving my resume, I was told the company was IBM Softlayer, and it was branching out in the Kanto region of Japan.

The waiting period for the interview itself was a month-long process. When it was finally time, they would inform you that week.

Interviews are held Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 3 PM via Zoom (online interview).

The interview was conducted by one hiring manager and one technician who primarily listened to the conversation. Most of the questions focused on teamwork and challenging situations at work (previous job obstacles and whether or not you can be a team player). There were a few technical questions about hardware.

I will advise you not to be confused by the job title. "IBM Server Build Engineer" really stands for Data Center Technician and has nothing to do with software. It is a starting IT position, so if you have some basic IT experience, review your hardware and go for it.
