Pros

To start a career, IBM serves. It's not a company that will demand a lot of knowledge from you at the beginning. Opportunity to take courses, get certifications, good benefits: VA, VR, health plan, home office.

Cons

One thing I never imagined is that a company like IBM doesn't care about software quality; they only care about cards delivered, even if it's garbage. Your level doesn't matter once you're on the project. If you're an intern, screw the complexity being mid-level or senior. In fact, it was one of the scenarios I faced at the beginning of my career here: the guys simply assembled a team of interns to work on a legacy project that's almost 20 years old. The idea is to fill team positions, regardless of the members' level. And the problem is yours if you've never seen that before; you figure it out to deliver, because they'll constantly hold you accountable for it. The salary is low; you deliver as a mid-level and earn as an intern here. Perhaps my experience was terrible due to all this complexity, a bad project, and leaders who don't even see you. It might have been a bubble that my colleagues and I faced, but I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Advice to Management

Que respondam aos seus subordinados, conversem, estruturem um plano de carreira. A impressão que dá é que não existimos, estamos isolados de tudo.
