Pros

Flexible work timings. IBM Corp. will allow someone to work to solve social problems in different geographies.

Sea of opportunities and a real chance of going anywhere in the world.

Cons

Very few or no pay hikes; on average, around 5% salary increment in a year.

Career growth, be it changing roles or tech, only depends on contacts.

Projects are their own silos, with managers playing autocrats. They create their own rules of operation, which may not be in-line with company policies, or bend the policies to suit themselves.

Career growth depends on being in the right place at the right time. Thus, much is left to chance. If you are good at building contacts and leveraging them, then you shall rise.

No, connect with HR. People managers play the function of HR, and most don't give a damn.

Having said so, there could be good projects working with good management, but one would need contacts to get into such accounts.

Too much dependency on luck and contacts.

Many managers have become managers without proper training to take up management roles.

Advice to Management

No point advising; they won't listen. The ones who listen are hapless and helpless.
