Pros

Freedom to work from home (at least in consulting). Fair salary. Great health insurance and benefits. Lots of opportunities.

Cons

Depending on who your manager is, you may find yourself working for an old-school boss who micromanages you. As in any consultancy business, many people like boasting about things they don't know, which causes problems when you are the technical lead.

Advice to Management

We need more real technical people in management positions rather than folks that pretend they know. We need people with scripting and hands-on SQL, who worked with real tools, instead of people who know from a theoretical point of view.
