I've been at IBM for many years, with the opportunity to move into various technical and leadership roles as my skills and personal interests matured and changed.
IBM provides access to and highly encourages continuous education and skills development through both self-paced learning and on-the-job experiences, allowing me to continuously explore and grow my personal skills and interests.
While IBM is a big company, the size can be daunting. I suggest focusing on an area of expertise and a single unit within IBM to learn and mature that skill and expertise. Gradually look for opportunities to collaborate with other skills/units and gradually grow your skill and networks in this way. This approach worked very well for me!
No matter your role and mission at IBM, remember to put your teammates and client first.
