Huge company. No shortage of talent. Let's say 1% is considered the cream of the crop. 1% of 370K employees is 3.7K people competing for top positions. It's easy to be really good and still not make it at all.
Huge gap between the 1 to 10 year folks and the 25+ year folks. In evaluation, the 25+ year folks get compared to someone with 5 years in the company.
They get poor ratings and leave. There has to be a better way to manage competition without making it appear hopeless to the growing technical community.
We have to develop a way to manage employee levels with changes in business needs. We currently have overqualified employees in lower career levels and underscoped employees in higher career levels.
