Pros
  • Lots of training materials available.
  • Lots of opportunities to move within the company.
  • Great name recognition.
  • Some fantastic management (some not as good).
  • Exceptional retirement benefits.
  • Very human approach to dealing with difficult life circumstances.
  • Generally very good implementation of Scrum.
Cons
  • Giant company with lots of distant, inter-related systems.
  • Difficult to get familiar with the various systems at first.
  • HR felt very distant and impersonal; questions often initially handled by chatbot.
  • Grade promotions are difficult and involve a lot of work.
  • Salaries are below market.
  • Unrealistic development decisions are imposed by higher management (which could probably happen anywhere, admittedly).
Advice to Management

The strategic decision to move to Salesforce in such a short timeframe put a very heavy burden on development (and other) staff. This came after other strategic decisions weighed heavily on staff the year before, and the year before that. It felt like these decisions came with little concern for those actually implementing the changes and heavily impacted morale and employee turnover.
