Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to make a career there

Pros

Employee competence, in my experience, is outstanding. Engineers and most management personnel are very intelligent.

Cons

The workload is extremely overwhelming most of the time. It is uncomfortable to address this issue because all employees, including management, are in the same boat. Many times management is not on-site, which makes confronting workplace issues difficult.

Advice to Management

IBM desperately needs an infusion of young blood. Building resources in AP is critical, but not at the expense of the US workforce.

The bottom line is, most engineers in the company have been "IBMers" for their entire careers. IBM was a top company when they joined. Now, IBM is just like everybody else. IBM's long-term plans seem to focus on building technical talent in the AP. That's fine with me, just don't expect everyone to stick around to see the plan through.
