Pros
  1. You will be offered a high salary.
  2. If you are in the engine development team and are a developer, then you are safe here.
Cons
  1. IBM ISL Kochi is a hire and fire company. They hired many people in Kochi, and when we look at the firing count, it is the same as the hiring count each year.

  2. IBM culture is based on a manager game. For all other locations, a technical person becomes a manager. Unfortunately, in Kochi, almost every manager is non-technical. They will not take any challenging work that offers visibility because they don't know about it. If they do take that work, it is the manager's responsibility to complete it on time. IBM wants visibility on work and the team. As the manager is the master, they are not looking back and just fire some people from their team to prove that they are not performing. That is the reason the team is not inventing new features. Everybody knows the exact reason why it is happening from bottom to top, and now it has become an IBM culture.

  3. Every half-year, there is a performance appraisal, and some people are put on PIP. Here, PIP means terminating employees. I have never seen any performance improvement plan provided to them. Instead, the company asks them to resign or they will terminate you. Due to termination complications, most employees agree to resign, but getting another job is very difficult as IBM provides a high CTC.

  4. If you are okay with a two-year job in IBM with a high salary, then it is good. But please do not go into a different skill set in IBM because IBM ISL Kochi will fire you within two years, and at that time, you will struggle to get another job.

Advice to Management

Thanks for the new IBM culture.
