Pros

Most of the engineers you work with are overqualified for the work asked of them.

Everyone is polite and professional.

Junior software developers will be technically challenged.

It looks good on your resume.

Great career track for a few management-bound people.

Cons

Salaries are being reduced through raises which don't keep up with inflation.

Everyone worries about being fired; everyone is ranked, and the bottom 2.5% are "whacked" every six months.

Medical and dental benefits are expensive for families.

IBM's interpretation of Agile software development methodology has turned the place into a sweatshop.

Every Band 9 ($120K+) faces a "move up or move out" dilemma.

Advice to Management

You're pushing people too hard. You verbally encourage people to take risks, but shoot them when they do so and then fail. Your focus is too short-term.
