Excellent place to develop skills. Good internal training programs. Reasonable work/life balance. A great place for a first or second job to develop skills and training, before obtaining competitive compensation elsewhere.
Uncompetitive salary. Poor raises and bonuses, even for top performers. Lack of career advancement opportunity. Promotions are extraordinarily difficult to come by, even for top performers. Middle management has a significant lack of vision. Employees are treated (and referred to as) interchangeable "resources" rather than individuals. Many employees are average at best. The 80/20 rule applies.
You cannot run a hardware and software company like a services company. People are not interchangeable parts or "resources". If you pay competitive salaries to keep and retain top talent, you will be more competitive in the marketplace. We've had some of our best people leave recently for pay increases in excess of 50%.
The initial phone screen was pretty interesting. As I shared my experience in the area, the manager also shared his experience and stories. It felt like a very casual conversation between two old friends. The actual face-to-face interview took part
My interview at IBM was smooth and professional. The panel focused on technical skills, problem-solving, and communication. They were friendly, asked scenario-based questions, and emphasized teamwork and adaptability. Overall, it was good.
All my interviewers were super cool, and from the questions asked, I was quite happy that I was going to the right team. However, there was an equally bad experience on the hiring/recruiting front. Communication was poor, infrequent, or nonexistent
