Pros

Large companies are known for their bureaucratic swamps that slow things down. IBM does a pretty good job of limiting this and allows you to do your job without all the micromanagement. As a professional, you are expected to do your job without requiring hand-holding. I love this part of my job.

  • Excellent benefits
  • Flexible work hours
  • Collaborative environment
  • Always innovative
  • Many different kinds of career opportunities. More recently, they are very receptive of allowing workers to move into other areas of interest.
  • Programs that support workers in many different ways, all the way from career growth programs to mental health support.
  • Improvements in work/life balance. In the past, this was not always the case. I feel there have been major improvements in this area.
  • A place you can spend your entire career.
Cons

In past years, I would have had a few things to say here, but I honestly have no present gripes. I feel that management has listened and changed some negative aspects.

Advice to Management

Keep up the good work on providing a workplace that allows innovation to flow.

I think the only thing that sticks in my head that seems to never go away is the fear of layoffs. Find ways to eliminate the need during hard times.

There are many loyal employees that work hard to make and keep IBM great. This is the number one thing you can do to show loyalty to your employees.
