Pros

Interesting problems for new development projects.

Very competent co-workers. You can learn a wide variety of stuff relating to compilers, architecture, and software performance.

Cons

Poor defect/bug prioritization by team leads and management, especially near deadlines.

Poor metrics for determining performance on defect investigation.

Advice to Management

Develop better employee performance evaluations that are more qualitative.

Give employees clearer understanding of defect versus new development priorities and how those priorities change when approaching release deadlines.
